Dr. Tokunbo Adelekan’s life has been a pilgrimage of mind and spirit. Dr. Adelekan is considered one of the most dynamic American Scholar-Preachers of his generation. He dares to see “things the rest of us do not see and dream worlds that are beyond most of our imagining.” He was featured by Ebony magazine as one of the “30 Leaders of the Future” in his role as a transatlantic communicator.
Dr. Adelekan received his Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in June 2002. His first book, entitled African Wisdom: 101 Proverbs from the Motherland, was released in 2004 by Judson Press. Two of his most recent works are, A Charge to Keep: Re-Missioning the Urban Church for the 21st Century (October 2014) and The Arts of Joseph: An Essay on the Art of Leadership (May 2018).
As a transformer of lives through the Spirit, Pastor Adelekan was an early pioneer of the modern Hip-Hop Scholar-Activist-Preacher phenomenon and introduced several culturally relevant innovations into practical missiology. Under his leadership, Christian Communities throughout the world have re-invigorated their outreach efforts to include the incorporation of PBS (Prayer Bible and Stewardship). Inspired by the love-ethic of Jesus Christ, Pastor Adelekan has led several grace-filled Christian communities through the COVID-19 pandemic to embrace sacrificial living and giving, which has yielded tremendous spiritual fruit. Advancements in the use of technology, re-envisioned worship practices and innovative Christian education models have provided several congregations with fresh and innovative ways to fuse the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) with the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40)—building a dynamic multi-generational ministry fit for our times.
Dr. Adelekan and his wife, the gracious and lovely, Tahira Adelekan (M.D.) are the proud parents of three wonderful children. They make their home in Dayton, Ohio. The Adelekan family loves God and connecting with people.
